The Matagorda County Birding Nature Center is located just outside of Bay City at 1025 Hwy. 35, just west of Bay City. It is open to the public for a small entry fee or membership every day, seven days a week, from sunup to sundown. It offers 38 acres of walking trails, ponds, wetlands, picnic areas, and lots of wildlife. On the east end of the park are an observation deck and access to the Colorado River for small watercraft like canoes and kayaks.

Come and Discover...

  • Over 3 miles of trails leading you through majestic, centuries-old live oaks and landscaped gardens, past waterfalls and ponds, and across streams and footbridges.

  • Three Ecosystems include wetland areas, native prairies and woodlands.

  • The Colorado River. The pier lets you get a close look at the Colorado - the largest river entirely within the state of Texas.

  • Birds and Wildlife Galore. Benches and blinds are strategically placed to let you blend into nature.

  • A Host of Volunteer Programs, including teaching educational classes, participating in habitat restoration, maintaning our gardens and grounds, working in the information kiosk and helping with special events.

Park Fees

When you enter the park, please veer to the right and stop at the kiosk. At the kiosk, you will see a QR code that you can scan with your smartphone to pay the entry fee. You may also deposit the entry fee in the lockbox located by the Park information box.

 

As a not-for-profit organization, we rely on your support. The entry fee helps maintain the grounds and operate the educational workshops and events. All members are offered free admission to the Nature Center and get a discount on any MCBNC-sponsored special events. Click here for membership information. Special tours are available to groups.

Student Groups are $1 per person in the group
